The locale that inspired The Athabascan was Jasper National Park. The Athabasca river flows through that park, and is ice cold and milky blue-green from the silt that comes from the mountain streams feeding into the river. Add to that the signature ingredients of Douglas Fir needles (in the simple syrup) and Juniper Berries (in the gin), and you have yourself a signature cocktail!!
Thanks to Derry Perkin for providing his expertise in rebuilding this cocktail.
1 oz Simple Syrup made with Douglas Fir Needles*
3/4 oz Blue Curacao
1 oz Bitter Bianco
1 oz Lemon+Lime juice (50/50) - alternatively use 100% Grapefruit juice
1 oz Gin infused overnight with a sprig of rosemary
Shake with ice cubes, and serve.
* In a frying pan, take 2-3 cups of water and simmer with a handful of Douglas Fir needles until reduced to 1 cup. Then take this and dissolve 1 cup of sugar to make the simple syrup.
Original Clueless Recipe (shown in photo):
Green TeaMilk
Toothpick end dipped in blue food coloring
Bombay Sapphire Gin
Ice (or better yet, frozen stones from the river)
Spritz of pine sap infused vodka

In the pretty picture you see a perfect example of the needles still attached to the branch of the tree. This is basically what I dropped into the fry pan to simmer. Don't remove the needles from the twig like bough
